I'm not entirely sure that my cat isn't dead.

He's 16, been outside most of his life, fought his battles, been around. He's been gone for three days. He's never gone overnight.

I wish I knew what happened to him; he's been mine for three quarters of my life. I really think he's dead.

i'll hold a good thought that what you need to happen, happens.

That's my recurring terror. Mine is a stray, not quite two, who turned up almost a year ago. So far the longest she's been gong is five hours and I was paralysed with fright.

They do wander, I know, and I hope yours comes back safe and sound and with lots of stories. Is a neighbour away or anything - could he have got trapped in a shed or garage?

Sometimes, not knowing is worse than knowing that the worst has happened.

My outdoor cats like to give me scares and disappear for a few days at a time, but sixteen years is a long time to live and be pulling this shit for the first time.

However, there are some resources. Call the local vets and shelters. Someone could have found him injured and done the kind thing by bringing him to the vet. Be especially vigilant if you have any kill shelters in the area. Keep an eye on the found ads, and putting out a few ads of your own doesn't hurt. There are both websites and local venues to check out. Some of the websites on lost pets can probably give you better advice than I can.

And, well, sick as it makes me to say this, check the roads. Too many cats meet their end that way. If you have a bicycle, that's probably the fastest way, since you miss a lot in a car.

It's the hope that will kill you. You may think he's dead, but then you'll feel bad for giving up on him if he's still alive. It won't be pleasant if you find his body, but at least then you can finally mourn.

Oh. Does he wear a collar? I just wondered if he could have gotten caught on something, since something is preventing him from coming home.

Oh no! :( I get worried when mine's away for more than a day, but it has happened once or twice, it seems she'll run away too far and can't find her way back on her own. It's possible it's something like that, and that someone has taken him in. And of course, he could be locked in somewhere. Have you called the local police stations and vets, etc? Is he marked?

I hope he shows up or you find him. *hugs*
