English as a National Language

Okay. Wow. There goes a big part of the national identity. Whoosh! I mean, wasn't there a reason why we didn't do this in 1776? Something about freedom, maybe? *facepalm*

*winces* Actually, it probably had more to do with them not thinking about it, since all of them had English in common and they then went on to reject requests to publish laws in German, saying it would be too difficult to put them in multiple languages. Louisiana also had to print all their written records (state, I mean) in English as a condition to become a state.

So unfortunately, less about freedom than my grade school teachers wanted me to think, and more unfortunately, precedent for doing it.

I type this while banging my head against the wall, mind you.
