Here I am, in a new apartment close to Montrose Harbor, in Chicago. Think I'm feeling ... happy? My wireless network is named "honeysuckle," which is used in witch-work to end unproductive nostalgia. Politics is going to all hell, and I think I'm very tired somewhere, but I'm busy and I'm still looking forward. Following my feet. I can walk to Lake Michigan, and that gives me peace. I've got enough work from home, but I'm also trying to psyche myself up to find decent work somewhere else. I don't think service work, tho I'm sort of tempted to go work as a cocktail waitress in Uptown ... I think I should probably make contact with some office at Harry Truman, and see if I can make myself useful there at all. I hear there's also a good feminist bookstore in my neighborhood.

I am trying to workshop some poems and maybe read them somewhere. If u wanna help with that, super let me know -- I'd love some second readers there. Not doing yuletide this year. Still trying to finish the finishable fanwork on my hard drive, but I'll admit I haven't been writing much. I want to be. Maybe I will be soon. Also having weird desires to try origfic.

Have any of you read the new Vorkosigan novella? I think I should maybe buy it for myself.

Do you mean /The Flowers of Vashnoi/? I've read it and enjoyed it. It is focused on Ekaterin, who I'm always happy to read more of.

I. Wait. How did I miss that you live in Chicago? Did you just move there? I used to live across the street from that feminist bookstore! Many years ago. Great neighborhood, really terrible heating and bug problems in that apartment. I've never had worm-infested flour before or since.

I live in the suburbs right now, so I'm a little out of the city life (alas, though we do visit the city every now and again), but if you have a way to get to the suburbs, there's a fan-run con in Lombard this weekend called Windycon: http://www.windycon.org/
