Lucy-related rambling and cracktasticness
Mar. 29th, 2006 12:27 pmPoint the First:
Why are there never any blonde Lucys? Damn it, it's canonical! But something about Susan being 'the pretty one" seems to make people think that Lucy must either be a spunky, pigtailed brunette or have that horrible overgrown bowl-cut from the BBC series. Am sulking.
Point the Second:
But also? Am utterly in love with my new default icon, gacked from the very very wonderful
chaos_pockets. Because dude. Blonde!Lucy/Caspian mackage and utter het!yay that is also quite pretty.
Point the Third:
You know how there are fics that you write out and post, and then there are stories that only live in your brain? The ones that are silly and cracktastic and indulgent and totally ignore canon and its themes?
I'm having this really intense urge to write/post one of my oldest brain-only fics: a strange and silly AU of "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" wherein Lucy is a bit...older, and the Caspian/Lucy subtext of the book becomes very texty indeed. It's basically VDT as a romance, with rescues, love at first sight, adventures, enslavement, brothers, first kisses, sex, changes, and angst. And it's silly and embarrasing but also really fun and shivery in good ways that make me happy.
This has been my favorite bedtime brain fic for nearly a decade now, and is it just too over the top and out of tune with the thematic nature of the canon to be presented to the light of day? Or would anyone possibly want to read it, emotionally masturbatory as it is? Should I keep the crazy hidden, or sound my barbaric and rather shippy yawp from the rooftops of fandom?

Date: 2006-03-29 07:56 pm (UTC)See, fic is about different possibilities, and exploring and changing stuff around, and I like that.
But movies that claim to follow a book, they shouldn't change things for no reason! That's just... wrong. Like that Earthsea miniseries? Pissed me right off. It's so disappointing when you expect to see something you loved and get something else instead.
(I think I'm rambling a little. Sorry. Going to bed now. :)
