lotesseOh, internet, I have had such a week so far. Conference Saturday, presenting research Tuesday - and getting thrown into a complete tizzy Monday night, when the course listings for next fall were released and I found that one of my requireds wasn't there. So I had many panic attacks, wrote many emails, had more panic attacks, called my mama and cried about it, and have now - I think - worked things out. I hate degree requirements - the department revised them the year after I got here, because they're impossible, but I'm still grandfathered in to the old ones. Of course, with new requirements, courses are being offered differently - so it's even harder to fulfill the old ones.
Added to this, no one around here bloody well crosslists. So I've ended up having to petition the Gender Studies department to recognize all the bloody work I've done on gender/sex and sexuality in non-crosslisted courses - with such titles as "Feminist Rhetoric," and "Sex, Gender, and Modernism." No, I have clearly not done enough work on gender to qualify for a minor, what are you talking about?!
I hate this kind of stuff. I'm not as good at it as I should be, and I blame myself and get all self-loathingy and dreadful and scared. I can write papers and give talks all day long, but bureaucracy will be the end of me someday, I think.
On the plus side, one of my co-panelists at the conference this last weekend was a student of Henry Jenkins', talking about transmedia - although tbh not very well! I am spoiled by fandom. Now I am going to totally puddleate, and maybe make cookies or watch a movie or something. My life! I need a damn vacation - or just to be done with graduate coursework.
