So, Summer Job moves into in-person training this week, which means I have to fly to fricking Dallas - grumble grumble - and I can't take my cats, and I think I'll have to buy vodka ect when I get there because can't you like not fly with liquids anymore? - and I'm having the Clothes Freakout.

I have the wrong body for business casual! Shirts always look revealing on me, due to my Rack of Doom, and I've been a feminist for too long to endure feeling uncomfortable. Dress slacks are uncomfortable, but my preferred sleeveless-top-and-big-skirt look is too hippy, too casual - and too frumpy. And when I'm in my own space usually I can deal with the emotional ish and dress how I like, but when it's a new space and new people, oh I wanna be cool and cute and fashionable and grownup and appropriate and I feel, right now, like I'm just really fundamentally bad at being those things.

I'm going with Nice Scoopneck Tees and Dress Pants and Not Worrying About It. And spending most of my time hiding in my hotel room with my laptop talking to you folks.

Uuuughhh, my sympathies :( Work clothes SUUUUCK.

I'm trying to think of what my more well-endowed colleagues used to wear.... Nice Scoopneck Tees was definitely a popular option. The more senior women obviously went for suits - suits with shirts in the same colour, or three-piece ensemble things with a top to match the jacket and skirt.

Serious Skirts are also a pretty good way of avoiding the ew-pants-don't-fit thing. That's pretty much what I have to default to - my butt being a whole size larger than my legs or hips, it's really unusual for me to find pants which fit.

Enjoy your trip to Dallas?

Ah, i see. I've come to terms with pantyhose (after a few years of hatred in school, due to being forced to wear tights). I can't wear skirts WITHOUT them, except if it's a really casual summer skirt with which I wear my one pair of summer sandals. My feet get cut up, blistered, what have you by *every pair of shoes ever* unless I'm wearing pantyhose or socks.

Good luck with the week away :)

I too do not really have a body for summer bussiness casual wear. Button down shirts are tools of some evil demon. Keep in mind that while dress is important a professional attitude is much more important. My current Japanese suprvisor wears jogging suits to work (I don't get the dress code here) but is much more well thought of and professional than my pervious supervisor who wore 3 peice suits even in the blistering Hiroshima summer. You are intelligent and full of awesome and if not having "the right clothes" blinds your coworkers from that I will hop across the pacfic and inflict my wrath. And give you hugs!

I have the business-trip clothes issues too. I have some great jackets, and figure anything neutral I wear under them is OK. Still worried about the spots on my shirts though.
