Mmm, just watched FMA: Brotherhood ep 40, and oh oh oh.

Oh that had me gasping. They're the sons of a philosopher's stone. Oh boys, you never stood a chance. Also, I have to squeak about just how cool it is that Xerxesians are blond and golden-eyed; Ed and Al don't just look like their father, but are in fact the direct genetic descendants of a long-dead civilization. They only look exotic because they're not actually Amestrisian by blood. Although it's entirely possible, I suppose, that they're not entirely human by blood. Oh boys!

:D :D :D I love the entire thing about Xerxes. And I love that it explains things about Hohenheim, and about the Homunculus, and about the boys - and I love that there are moments where Hohenheim's mannerisms are clearly the same as the boys' mannerisms (I don't know if they included the bristly kitty ponytail moment in Brotherhood, but oh man). It's such a fantastic, appalling, deeply strange backstory.

Sorry! It's personal shorthand - when Ed or Al are shocked and/or angry and their respective ponytails/braids stand up straight like angry cat tails. Sometimes I forget that it's just my mental description.

He is so much like his son. Less bold, because less secure but oh man. *hearts them all like crazy*

I do wonder about any possible inheritance Ed & Al have from Hohenheim. Certainly their natural talent for alchemy comes from their father being who he is (does the anime imply that Hohenheim founded Xingese alchemy like the manga does?).

Oh yes, I watched all of the first anime (and the movie, ugh), and I read the manga in Japanese. I've fallen behind on Brotherhood, though, I'm stuck in the mid-20s.

Hey, maybe I could watch some this weekend...

I always assumed, in the first anime, that Hohenheim and Dante were using the Stone to reincarnate themselves somehow.
