I spent all last night writing my Senators and Representatives - I'd been considering changing my voter registration to Indiana, but that fucker Stupak is keeping me in Michigan so that I can strike out against him in any way that I can. Man makes me ashamed to be a Michigander, which fact I informed him of in the very pissy email I sent off. Planned Parenthood has a good mass-write-Obama thing organized, so I did that too. But my hopes are not very high.

Bill Clinton thinks we shouldn't let the perfect be the enemy of the good? This isn't the good. If it was just not helping with abortion access maybe, but this bill would make things even worse than they are now. And abortion rights are too fragile right now, after the chipping-away that's been diminishing them for oh pretty much my entire lifespan, to let this happen. I don't care so much about the perfect, but I'll fight back against the atrocious.

I just wish I had any hope that fighting will make a difference.

YEAH that's what Bill Clinton thinks--look what passed for welfare reform when he was president. That is not a surprise.

I'm really really happy you are a Michiganer. (Yes, I know it's really Michigander, but this way sounds Yiddish and cuter.)

It's actually a problem with the whole neo-liberal "get things done" ideology. You want to be remembered as doing something. Something! Anything! Even if the reform that the entirely Republican, contract-on-America Congress passes is 180 degrees from what you intended, sign it anyway! I get scared by how many people from Clinton's admin. are in the Obama admin., and how frequently they voice these sentiments.

Yes. Yes. "Ending welfare as we know it" was worthy of the Sheriff of Nottingham.

And meanwhile we lost so many good-paying manufacturing jobs because of f***ing NAFTA.

And a bunch of powerful women lost cred because he hid behind their skirts during his stupid sex scandal. And he tainted his whole party with his general sleaziness.

I'm not sure who did more to wreck the New Deal, him or that last guy.

This is why I love Barack Obama- he's the first president in my lifetime I respect. And I'm still rooting for him, but come on!
