I've been working on this iconset for a while - Taran and Eilonwy, separate and together. Images drawn from everything and anything: classical art, Victorian fairy tale illustrations, stock photos, random google image searches.
Oh, these are GORGEOUS. Exactly how I imagine Eilonwy to look--I haven't read the Chronicle of Prydain in forever but I *loved* her and her bauble. I wanted one just like it.
The first in the first row is an illustration of Tristan and Isolde from Kris Waldhgerr's "Lover's Path" tarot deck. The second in the first row is an illustration of the Little Mermaid, but I don't remember where I got it from.
I'm not sure if the last one you're asking about is #12 or not, but the art I used for that one comes from an illustrated book of fairytales from the early 1900s, with pictures by Florence Harrison.
Oh god, go read them. If you click my prydain tag, you'll see a scene from the fourth book that I typed up myself, just so I could always have access. If you like that snippet, Prydain will make you very happy.
--This is somewhat weird, as I've been planning a general Chronicles of Prydain icon set. But these are lovely! I'm not taking any yet, but I may later.
(Also, questions: do you have the image you used for the last one, by any chance?)
Oh lordy, so pretty. The combo of great artwork and Lloyd Alexander make me so happy. I'm even more happy that you've used artwork by Kinuko Y. Craft (ex. #17) because I adore the covers she's done for Patricia A. McKillip's books. More than any other character, Eilonwy made me want to be a redhead. And I'm sure I'm not the only little girl who carried a ball, pretending it was a bauble after reading the books.
I never thought about that, but it really is true. Zel herself isn't much like Eilonwy, I think (they're both lovely characters in entirely different ways!), but the picture is rather like her.
Thank you! I love Achren. :)
Oh, and you really seem like a fascinating person, between the Much Ado About Nothing quote on your profile page and the Lloyd Alexander - may I friend you?
These are amazing! I love the Prydain chronicles. I found your lj whilst browsing the book_icons group, can I add you as a friend? (Is that a weird thing to ask? I just really liked your blog! Bookish people are the best people, after all.)
OMG these are fantastic. (I'm not stalking your journal. Really. It's just so rare to find another Prydain fan - and a fellow Eilonwy-lover to boot - I had to click the tag and further feed my obsession. I'm going to friend you to keep tabs on anything else you post on the topic - you need not feel obligated to return the favor, as I realize we have little in common beyond this and a love of classical children's lit.)
Snagging #3 and #20, and may come back for more. They are so lovely it even assuages my disappointment that none of my own art made the cut. :P I hope it's not because you couldn't find it. Justin Kunz gets all the love from google.
