The thing about Supernatural 2.21 that's really been killing me is just how sweet Sam is about Dean throughout the whole episode.
All those little, "I have this brother" moments. He's not too freaked about Dean, worried a little bit, but mainly he just misses him. Oh my heart.
I love that we get this story on the heels of Dean's run-in with the Djinn, because of the storyline we didn't see. Sammy had to figure out that Dean was gone, figure out what had happened to him, and figure out how to save him. Sam's been spending a lot of time on his own. And then there he is in Cold Oak, and He's alone again, and he's not losing or anything but he's got this sweetly wistful thing going on, and oh Sam you love your big brother so much.
The look on his face when he hears Dean's voice, so happy and relieved. He's beat to hell, having just gone a round with the strongman, and he's clearly in pain, but he looks so terribly like a small child who's glad to be found.

And then the dawning anxiety, but too little too late. The last real expression we see from Sammy is that one of mingled love and fear, and oh god, show, that's not fair!

ow ow ow ow ow.
