Dumbles wanted him to do it. That's the only thing tat makes any sense. Pleading, pleading,...begging him to do it, to kill him? Dumbledore KNEW about Malfoy, thus he knew about Severus. Something needed to happen that meant that Dumbledore had to die, and he trusted Snape to do it.

God, please let me be right. If he's really dark, I really dont know what that's going to do to my desire to continue reading. Really, he's the only reason I came back to this book. He elevates the level of the story so much, by being a nasty bastard who is still on the "right side," by showing that not all Good Guys are pretty or nice.

Man, so much denial. Just so much.

More stuff coming later, after I leave for a week and go sit on my boat and think about this. However, I really need to note this one thing: the monster in his chest purred? WTFOMGBBQ.el

Thank you. You've at least partially restored my faith in Snape fans. (I've read so many posts squeeing about this, I'm beginning to get nervous.....) I agree with your assessment. I don't believe JKR could leave it like this--all will be resolved in the seventh book shall be our mantra......ohm.......

I will say that I'm desperate for it to not be so less as a Sanpefan,though lolord knows I'm enough of one, but as a reader of the books in general. It would trouble me deeply if Snape, the greasy git, ended up really being a baddie. It would make it all so much more dull.

Tere are certainly some characters who I love to be bad, but never Severus. The doubt and mistrust around him make liking that sort of thing an impossibility.

I know...if Snape was a bad guy, it would just make the story a lot more flat and uninteresting; he was one of the uncommon characters that made the books really good.

I'm hoping hoping hoping that there was a reason.

Honestly, it never occurred to me otherwise. Nothing else makes sense. There's even the foreshadowing of Harry having to feed that stuff to Dumbledore. I think this was planned even before the book started, which is why Snape surprised Bella with the vow.

Haha, I love you, m'deah. My sentiments EXACTLY. Snape is my man and I find the rest of it to be only moderately tedious...

I haven't gotten to the "monster in his chest" yet but I'm sure I'll laugh when I do.

Any impression that Rowling's sense of humor is getting better as her taste for screenplay-like action decreases?
