I wish I could read the Doyle post. It might be worth paying $5 for one month's membership, but frankly I think it sounds like something that *shouldn't* be behind a paywall, because it's about the health of an online community that has a lot of very poor and/or young people in it.

I must have caught it within an accessible window (linked from Doyle's tumblr), because I'm not a subscriber! I didn't realize the piece was paywalled, and agree that accessibility matters when it comes to thought on the internet.

While I understand the need to make a living as a writer -- do I ever! -- I also remember, and miss, an era of internet writing where all were dedicated amateurs ...

I liked what Doyle said about paying attention to oppositional sexism (before and related to the quote you pulled); I think sometimes about what trans feminist theory has said about basing your gender identity not on a metaphysical ideal but embodiment, how you feel and what you enjoy being/doing, for lack of a more sophisticated explanation.
