The way it goes: just respond and I'll ask you five questions, which you then answer in your own LJ and repeat the process.
My questions (from Emei):
1. What do you like best about the lakes? I love the feeling of the water against my body when I dive in off the boat--the rush of it, the tingly cool feeling of it streaming around my fingertips and in my hair.
2. Who is your favourite fictional character and why? Oh my god, I have to have just one?!? Okay...probably Galadriel, if we're going for favorite of all time. I had a serious case of hero-worship for her as a kid, used to play Lothlorien with my girlfriends and always was related to her in some way. She's just so kickass.
3. Have you traveled abroad? Not nearly as much as I would like. I've never been off the continent, though I've spent a fair amount of time in Canada, mainly in Stratford, Ontario at the Shakespeare Festival.
4. Which is your least favourite Shakespeare play? Either Pericles, which I saw done in Stratford and cannot believe was written by my baby--in my defense, there is some genuine scholastic debate on that--or Taming of the Shrew, despite the fabulous banter. I can't figure that play out. I know it can't be as bad as it seems, because this is coming from the man who wrote Rosalind, fer chrissakes. But I can't figure out what he's doing with it, and it worries me that maybe it is as bad as it seems.
5. Why do you dislike Dickens? Because I don't think I've ever been able to love any of his characters. They're all tiresome and self-involved and beastly, and I tend to wish that they'd just go away. I honestly don't understand why the literary establishment likes this guy so much. I mean, Tale of Two Cities uses more cliches that your average ff.n fic, and Lucie Manette is a bloody Mary Sue. /rant :)

Date: 2006-05-06 08:13 pm (UTC)And yes, Galadriel IS kickass in a major way. She's the answer to the accusation that Tolkien couldn't write women at all (he had his troubles, but could on occasion overcome them).

And, you know, there's always Eowyn. Yes, Tolkien was such a misogynist that he wrote Eowyn. Right.
