The inclusion of the tiny detail that the automatic doors open too slowly and spoil Tien's dramatic suicide ultimatum is the most brutal distanced look at the foolishness of male exercise of power. The power is real; but so is the ridiculousness, and from her author's vantage point Bujold doesn't let you forget it.

Like, at this point, there are two books I've found that help a person see through That Guy and all his bullshit -- and they're Lundy Bancroft's "Why Does He Do That?" and "Komarr."
