Watched S1 of "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" -- enjoyed it, very ASP-ish, with a nice budget to go with the fast talk this time around. Very much looking forward to the usual ASP intergenerational exploration of these characters.

Noticed how very good ASP's shows are at creating these male characters, not really love interests, who are good enough people that you understand why the women love them, but nevertheless are not good enough partners for those women for you to really root for them. You end up liking the male character, sort of, but you also don't want him within 50 feet of the woman in question, because he's just so very obviously not up to her level. It's ... a resonant character archetype, is all I'm saying.

I want to ship Midge/Susie, but I don't quite have a grasp on the erotics. Susie going all badass in defense of Midge is super hot ... but I also want more for Susie than she's gotten so far, she's a sweet lonely honey, and I wonder if I really wouldn't like it just as much if Midge were the rescuer. Midge's self-centeredness is pretty delightful in the show, tbqh -- it's a good power fantasy -- but I'm finding it makes her hard for me to ship.

I really enjoyed "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" - especially the clothes and the vintage Pyrex. *g*

I adored that season. And I hear you on the male characters. (Which is a tricky thing to accomplish; if the fellow is too unworthy and obnoxious, you don't buy that the woman fell in love and remained that way for longer than five minutes in the first place.)

re: Midge/Susie, I think what keeps me from shipping it is that if Midge were to be Susie's lover in addition to being her client and friend, then there wouldn't be any part of Susie's life not focused on and about Midge. Which is often a bit off putting to me - I like it more in a pairing when both parties have something in their lives besides each other. Which Midge evidently would have, but not Susie.

It is good, fun to watch with my daughter. Have you seen Good Girls Revolt? She is deeply pissed off that it only had one season.
