Feeling low and sad today. Which I think maybe has to do with family and loss; everyone up home just did the big readjustment that my grandpa's passing this last spring necessitated, my gran moving out into a condo and my aunt moving up from downstate to take over the bed and breakfast. I've lost two grandfathers in two years, and in a way what I end up grieving are the configurations of the family that I knew when I was young, that were so wonderful. I get scared that we won't be able to keep the wonderful after everything changes.

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling down. It's always tough to lose family. Take care of yourself.

Here's one for your meme: Pass, Repass, Glide Away. I found that one fascinating and enigmatic and would love to see a further glimpse into the young Holmes and Mycroft.

It's a story that I'm in love with and in hate with, a little. I was doing research on pre-homosexual queer identities, and Victorian crossdressing - the case of the transwoman Mycroft mentions in the story is a real one - and I wanted to do something that didn't import modern ideas of sexual identity into the early c19th. Which I still think is a good aim, but I'm not sure I pulled it off.

I love Mycroft Holmes. I love the idea of someone like Sherlock having someone around, someone older, who's also made wrong in the head but who is less likely to spontaneously self-destruct. If Watson is sometimes the outsider pov on Sherlock Holmes' mind, Mycroft is the consummate insider.

The story suffers from the same problem as a number of my other works, including Graceful and Green and the Star Wars longfic I've been sitting on for the last year: when I get going writing a story that's about love but also really something else, I can have a hard time knowing what to do with the sex. Because these are stories about falling in love, but not necessarily sexual love? But then in this case the sex was so fun and transgressive that I really wanted to write it - so I sort of slipped it into the cracks, and I'm not sure how well that works as a solution!
