The current gnarl in the US Congress right now is unbelievable - and yet I more than believe in it. This is the consequence of rights that are legal alone, of rights that stand unprotected by social backing of any kind - eventually they stop looking like rights, and start looking expendable. The fact that Republicans can hold the entire rutting government hostage to their crusade against women's sexual and bodily autonomy says a lot about the current place of women's rights in our national rhetoric - they're not afraid to say it, they don't think it'll have negative consequences or get them ousted, because women right who cares about those bitches?

Am advocating a return to feminist militancy, I think. If they're not going to play nice, I don't see why we should. Shit like this is why I still read/support aspects of second wave feminist theory. Like Nancy Pelosi says, this is war.

Well, yeah. Liberal/accommodation feminism is kinda what got us here, alas. :( Well no, patriarchy is what got us here, but being nice until they treat us like people is apparently not working. :(

What scares me is that ultimately, I think the Dems will just throw us under the bus like they do every time, because it's expedient. But I hope not.

I'm not sure they can, with contraception! It's become too mainstream. Abortion is all but lost, and has been slipping away for some time now - but we all contracept, and I do think the Repugs are going too far in attacking it so clearly. If we're talking ultimately, yeah, the Dems don't give a damn - but this time they're going to have to go to bat for us.
