sorry for the unexpected drop off the face of the planet - I was having the Februaries, and got v. sulky and quiet for a while. But one of my instructors just extended an essay due date, and the sun was out today after the mungy ice-rain, and I'm getting over it, yanno? Because depression is boring and cruddy.

So! I just watched this fucking awesome movie (The Fall, 2006, seriously guys check this one out it's bloody gorgeous and also streaming on Netflix. it's one of those movies where someone tells a story and then the movie cuts to the story and it's all surreal and gorgeous and I seriously don't even know how they got some of those shots, but damn). I showed my brats clips from Singin in the Rain today, and we talked about metatheater, and the lesson was actually fun for once. It's Friday and what the fuck ever I'm gonna make some damn Star Wars icons because have you seen the behind-the-scenes shenanigans on that one?! And maybe even write some fucking porn (is that redundant? that's redundant). Vibrating between Han/Luke and Daniel/Teal'c, though I really want to write about some sexy ladyparts. Why am I not currently watching shows with femslash? And also why can I not get started on Lost Girl fic whywhywhy?!

Also, Egypt! Tunisia! revolution! my hopes are with them in their struggle for great justice!

i would love to hear your character background meta for daniel/teal'c, because i adore both characters but haven't really seen a way to get them together -- way too much baggage, you know?

Okay, so I think in large part I'm into Daniel/Teal'c not so much because of the actual show, which gives them so little screentime, but because of the show I wish it was. So much of the premise of Stargate is so cool - ancient gods and buried history, yanno? And I get very irritated with the fact that we keep having to go back to bloody Colorado to hang out with white Americans in the military. Not that I don't like Jack and Hammond and Sam and Janet, but I feel like I've heard that one. And T ends up a peripheral character because the show's too lazy to actually describe Jaffa culture in any depth.

The show that I really want is one centered around the Jaffa rebellion, in which Daniel stays on Abydos, the earth gate isn't reopened, and Teal'c meets him on Chulak when Sha're is taken. Daniel's a fish out of water slash point of view character, but the narrative's all about this alien/historical culture he's interacting with. And the recovery of history and the recovery of literacy as key to the cultural solidarity necessary for successful revolution.

Basically, I think Teal'c is the coolest and most badass person on SG1. He has something Daniel needs: steadiness, intensity of feeling, but also a living connection to the ancient history Daniel's been in love with all his life. And I think Daniel also has something he needs in his expressiveness, his questioning of automatic violence, and his capacity to forgive.

They'd have really hot sex!

I love your idea of how well their characters would fit together if there were an AU to put them in. Making it an AU takes away all the problematic stuff that I can't get over, and I totes agree with your assessment of them.

I need to write more Teal'c. I really do. I adore him and you are so right about the canon giving him and the whole Jaffa thing short shrift. One of the major reasons I rewatch Ark of Truth is for him.

I loved the Fall so much. It's been a couple years since I've seen it so I'd really like to watch it again. What's extra amazing is that there were no digital effects in it.

Also hay, if you want to write the ladyparts but are jonesing for particular ships, you could always write them as always!girls. :)

So, I'm at the AWP conference right now, and I've seen a thing you must know about, if you don't: Fairy Tale Review. It's gorgeousness. And they've recently published a book called Whitework (that's a link to a small exerpt from it) that's I'm really enjoying.

Also, the world needs more femslash from you. Yes.

I haven't read the book - will look it up - but I met the founding editor of the FTR a few years back, as an undergrad. Her books are also v. fab!
