I had a sudden nostalgia trip over Cicada Magazine today. Guys, what a great publication. I was one of the first subscribers, as I was just the right age to transition up from Cricket when Cicada started up. Oh, I used to wait for it to come each month! I'd read the whole thing, but jumping around based on what caught my attention first, and then winding back around to potentially-overlooked gems.

I wonder if any of my old copies are still around at home? I fear not; and perhaps the newsprint paper wouldn't have held up well, anyway.

The stories I remember most are "A Brief Moment In The Life of Angus Bethune," and the short graphic novelette "Me & Edith Head." I think I might order a chapbook copy of the latter. I remember loving the way that both of these narrative pieces approached the imperfect human body, and the desire to self-beautify even if you weren't ever going to fit into beauty-culture molds.
