The inclusion of the tiny detail that the automatic doors open too slowly and spoil Tien's dramatic suicide ultimatum is the most brutal distanced look at the foolishness of male exercise of power. The power is real; but so is the ridiculousness, and from her author's vantage point Bujold doesn't let you forget it.
