life in its jewel-boxees
Dec. 18th, 2006 10:27 pmI think I may have finished my Yuletide story. Both the Boy and the Sister have read it, and liked it, so there's lowbrow and highbrow covered. (Although not in the correspondece that the structure of that last sentence would lead you to believe.) Almost 5,000 words, which is not half bad, and more plot than I usually do. Still, I'm petrified. And excited. And petrified.
I found the first and third Wren books at the used bookshop the other day, and plowed through them in just one night. The series is Wren to the Rescue, Wren's Quest, and Wren's War, by Sherwood Smith. I oved them a a little girl, even though no one else seems to have heard of them. They're about what you'd expect from traditional YA fantasy--the usual character set, familiar names and plotlines, the susal sort of magic and even a magic school. But yet, they work. They're engrossing, lovable. They make the old things feel new. Perfect comfort reading--familiar, but not predictable or trite.
Watched the first disc of Firefly today. Shiny. And also PotC.
Eljay redesigned the posting interface. I don't like it. And I really don't like the mini-icon box at the top of the screen. Leave it well enough alone, eljay people! It works just fine.
