I don't think I'm going to be able to see Avatar. The link goes to a James Cameron interview with playboy. Here, have a quote:

"[Guys]won’t be able to control themselves. They will have actual lust for a character that consists of pixels of ones and zeros. You’re never going to meet her, and if you did, she’s 10 feet tall and would snap your spine .... Right from the beginning I said, 'She’s got to have tits,' even though that makes no sense because her race, the Na’vi, aren’t placental mammals."

!!!!

Oh James Cameron no!

I've never watched Avatar and know almost nothing about it, but Right from the beginning I said, 'She’s got to have tits,' even though that makes no sense because her race, the Na’vi, aren’t placental mammals.

I think I just swallowed my tongue.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is actually not an anime, but a show aired by Nick that drew mostly from East and South Asian cultures. The cartoon is three seasons long and kickass (though I haven't seen the last season yet!).

They did "colorblind casting" for the movie, and fandom is ANGRY.

But these are two very different, similarly-named things.

Er. In case you wanted an info overload . . .

I have heard this, but haven't seen it! Has everyone gotten a calendar this year but me? Even my google-fu has failed me, because I cannot find the picture online, either.

. . . that quote is just gross.

The spec-fic writer in me is tearing my hair out because he just admitted to committing the first big no-no in worldbuilding: you have to follow your own rules.
