Because it's not canon if she can't find some way to work it into the books. You don't get to add stuff to your world like that, with no fuss or bother as to keeping exposition in character. In a way it's quite lazy. Frankly, if she can't work the details into a story somehow then I'd rather she left the spots open for the rest of us. I don't mean to sound bitchy about it, but I liked it better when the world was that which was in the books and anything that your imagination felt like adding. And I'd like to keep it that way.
And, on an unrelated note: I love dancing, especially dancing the old dances. Hip hop, sure, it's fun and sexy, but there is no joy greater than the old dances. The formal chaos of the dizzy waltz, the fluid-rigidity of swing, the woven intricacy of contra. I love them so. It's like flying, but controlled, patterned. Absolutely perfect.
