I'm completely in love with the direction this season is taking. I'm not so sure about this week - I don't think they'll un-break-up House and Wilson this soon, so I'm guessing less RSL screentime. Also, the private eye is coming back and he kind of irritates me. He's shifty. I don't like it.

But I love, love, love the fact that they let Wilson go there. I love that the writers are forcing House to deal with his own messes, and I love that Wilson's found his backbone. Because their relationship has always been warped, but it used to work for them. And of late, it hasn't really been working for them. Last season saw an escalation in House's level of semi-suicidal uncaringness, and a corresponding level of growing unhappiness from Wilson. Not working. Not for anybody.

I read, somewhere in the internets that I can't particularly remember right now, that the people who blame Wilson for walking away haven't been in that kind of situation themselves, and can't understand. And maybe that's part of why this arc resonates so well for me - it's familiar. There's a delicate balance in being with a needy partner. I love my Boy, and I want to stay with him, but I do have to do a certain amount of juggling between my Girlfriend hat and my Therapist one. I have to be able to be there for him as a caretaker, but I also have to be able to demand his consideration and his care as a partner. It's complicated. And every now and then, you have to pull back and rebalance before you can come back together.

That's the place Wilson is in right now. He loves House, and he wants to be with him, but there are things that have to happen before he can be. Because ultimately, co-dependent or one-sided relationships hurt everyone involved. I think Wilson knows that.

This is not to say that I expect House to really change. But he doesn't really need to. They were okay back in Season One, when House was an abrasive, emotionally stunted jerk. They've been okay for a long time, and House has never been a nice person. But yeah, House might have to reevaluate how he interacts with Wilson, how he prioritizes around him, how he gives back to the friendship. He's done it before, he can do it again.

But man oh man, do the new ducklings irritate me! Thirteen especially - Miss Tell-Not-Show. Sure, she's bi, but going by the visual evidence I'd say it's more like asexual. Taub is just boring. This next ep is apparently going to be Taubtastic, so maybe it'll interest me in him. Or it might just bore me to tears.

Kutner can stay, though. "He paid for your lunch, liked monster trucks, and was your conscience." Hee!
