8:03 Obama contrasts Wall Street and Main street - nice rhetoric, and I appreciate that shift in emphasis.

8:05 McCain, shut the hell up about Kennedy. Crocodile tears, man.

8:06 republicans and democrats working together on the economy?!?! Not from what I hear! The repubs are being slimeballs, and refusing to negotiate, and shut up McCain.

8:08 economic scare tactics from McCain, foreign oil, code for terrorists, yadda yadda.

8:09 Mmm-mmm. Obama just pretty much slammed lassez-faire capitalism. Thank you, baby, keep it up. Bring us that socialist revolution! god knows we need it. Ug, McCain comes back with military history. Nice appeal to suffering citizens, man. Normandy?

8:11 Obama: many people were suffering before the crash. Whoo! God, I could listen to this man talk all day.

8:14 Their rhetorical difference - Obama speaks compassionately, with passion, of the plight of the working class. McCain says the same thing, but so pessimistically, and without feeling. Obama sounds like he genuinely understands, whereas McCain is just using the same old language of fear, dread, despair. It's very Locke/Hobbes. I bet McCain believes in the Leviathan.

8:15 No, hon, John, pumpkin. It's not going to get better if we just close the pursestrings and never spend any money. We need, in fact, to funnel money back into the system, into the right parts.

8:16 Obama takes it right back to the tax cuts for the rich. Point goes to the Illinois senator on this one, no question!

8:19 McCain dodges the issue; goes on attack, fluffs up his rep as a maverick.

8:20 Obama asserts that spending is necessary - healthcare - care for the middle class. Not the lower class, Barack?

9:22 God, McCain's boring. The cadences of his voice are better than valium. Oh, hang on, wait, families are going to purchase their own healthcare with 5,000 dollars? Ha! Not the health care in this country! For a family? This is so not a decent substitute for subsidized medicine.

(I'm terrified by how nearly I missed that bit of horror imbedded in his droning. His voice is a weapon of mass somnambulance)

8:25 Okay, both of you, this is getting ridiculous. One quotes a number, the other denies it, another number, another denial. This is quickly becoming meaningless

8:26 Oh, thank god, new question. Iiiiinteresting one!

8:27 Michigan and Ohio shout out! That comment will win him points - god knows the american auto industry just keeps getting more and more screwed.

8:28 Education! COLLEGE AFFORDABILITY! Broadband internet in poor communities! Man, I love this guy.

8:29 Cut spending, cut spending. Oooh, Obama's such a radical. Whatev. Defense spending, but in language completely incomprehensible to the average voter. Heck, to me. Contracts whut?

8:31 Obama, don't deny your base. Just don't. It's not nice.

8:32 Spending freeze on everything other than military costs?!?! Thank you, Obama, for mentioning schools, medicare. McCain is a dingbat. This is absolutely insane. That's the craziest shit I've ever fucking well heard.

8:35 When Obama talks about things getting better, I almost believe him. Especially when he starts talking about FDR.

8:37 McCain: communism booga booga! Who cares if you can go to the doctor, as long as the commies don't win. Better dead than red, boys!

8:39 Again with the Miss Congeniality - that's the second time in the last half hour. Maverick, yes yes yes, sickening reference to Palin in a patronizing little voice. Screw you, asshat.

Having missed the debate because I'm overseas and CNN won't let me watch it for some reason, I really appreciated this blog.

And Brian and I want you to have our lit/political babies. LOVED the Hobb/Locke reference. It fits so well.

This right here is what needs to be repeated ad nauseum on the news tomorrow. He clearly made up that plan the second before he said it, but it's such a completely ridiculously stupid plan, I cannot believe he'd even say it.
