Sexism in the Media, 1003 verse!
Apr. 22nd, 2008 11:06 amThis is why I stopped wanting to be a journalist.

The first one is this week's cover of The New Republic. I couldn't get a full shot of the second cover, this time of the National Review, but it uses the above image of Michelle Obama along with the tag "Mrs. Grievance: Michelle Obama and Her Discontent."
I hate the media so much right now. I hate them for their hideously unfair and misogynistic treatment of Hillary Rodham Clinton - I'm an Obama supporter, but they've crossed the line so many times it's not even there any more. And that National Review cover - ! Who the hell do these people think they are? We're fortunate enough to live in an age where formidable women can be involved in politics. I mean, Michelle Obama is the bomb! And yet we allow them to be this badly treated in the public press?
Journalism is dead, I swear.

But, there are of course many emotions you could appeal to, many villains you could invent, and many ways to ridicule politicians that don't involve painting them and along them half the country as "silly, hysterical women".
