... how tf is the 1995 Pride and Prejudice a yuletide fandom? P&P fic is its own damn industry, and the characterization from the Firth/Ehle film is imo quite dominant.

INESCAPABLY DOMINANT.

*cough* You know my feelings on this, but as someone who's been ranting for 10+ years about how P&P fanon is overwhelmingly drawn straight from the mini-series, I'm just ... what?

I mean. Down to little things like Caroline's orange dress, Elizabeth's ~curvaceous~ figure by contrast to a willowy Jane—??????—the unnamed Fitzwilliam earl being Lord Matlock, Mr Collins' ... everything, the existence of Darcy's dog (there are fics written just about that dog!), along with scenes/dialogue incorporated right in—particularly that goddamned pond—just everything.

People don't tag it because, for large swaths of the fandom, the mini-series is indistinguishable, or at least indistinguished, from P&P. It's an unmarked default. I've very rarely encountered fic that presents itself as mini-series fic, but the vast majority that I've read is quite unambiguously so.

You could hardly like it less :P

I'll admit, I have a pretty visceral distaste for any adaptation or expanded universe or delivery from on high getting codified into fandom orthodoxy, even when I do like it for itself. But that aside, it's just ... most P&P fic isn't even using the 1995 as part of a wider grab bag, it is straight up fic of the 1995 with occasional borrowings from Austen. I mean, 1995!Mr Hurst fic! Vampire slayer crossovers! Everything!
