My undergrad senior essay was on the blindness thing; in retrospect, the critical methodology is appallingly psychoanalytic, but I'm still square with the thesis it advances: that before Jane can marry him, Rochester has to be forcibly removed from the position of absolute privilege he occupies. The essay got sort of over-literal on the "was blind but now I see" trope, but. Undergrad writing.
