Yay Jane Eyre squee! I'm reading for my qualifying exams in Victorian Literature, finishing off the non-dissertation part of my PhD, so this sort of thing is pretty much my bailiwick right now. I've not read the Martineau, but she's definitely on my radar as someone I need to dig into in the near future - if/when I do, I'm definitely going to bug you about it :)
