Got anything particularly readable (but not dumbed-down) you can recommend in the latter category?

I'm doing historiographical research, so I'm not the most current - but I found both Susan Kingsley Kent's Sex and Suffrage in Britain, 1860-1914 (1987) and Lucy Bland's Banishing the Beast (1995) decently readable.

Sometimes I want to think I don't like them, because I have so many of them that I have to read, and my stupid insecurities get tangled up in everything - but then I actually read one, and it's just love. Love love love.

DO IT! and then join me in writing fic! It feels like there's been a falling-away from Prydain in fandom of late, and that makes me sad, because it is so utterly banging.
