... is it a sign of impending grownupness that by Twelfth Night I was really ready for my Christmas tree to go away? Did not get around to actually taking it apart until today, but - I can remember, as a kid, begging for the tree to be left up for one more week, and then one more.

This is seriously disconcerting.

Oof, that was me this year - mom and I didn't even put up the tree. I blame it on the year we've both had. But trust grandmothers to come through and uphold traditions: she took over my usual place by being the one to start asking if we couldn't just open maybe one gift on Christmas Eve. :D

I suspect more world-weariness than grown-upedness, perhaps, on your part too? You have never struck me as someone who has many problems seeing magic in an oft icky and unmagical world. I can see you as an eighty-year old woman somewhere, showing granddaughters or little neighbourhood girls the faeries in her garden. :)
