yuletide recs, part two
Dec. 27th, 2008 12:53 amAnd This Time I'll Remember, Hot Fuzz, Danny/Nicholas. Fist kisses and murders, cameo by the peace lily, daddy issues on Danny's part and temporary amnesia for Nicholas.
Tokens of Affection, Hot Fuzz. Long, brilliant, and funny holiday Danny/Nicholas story.
Bonum Commune Communitatis, Hot Fuzz. Seriously creepy fic examining the Sandford Murders, and the concept of the greater good, Interview with a Serial Killer style. Eek!
Her Rightful Place, The Devil Wears Prada. Emily-centric, with great clothes, cats, and lesbianism.
When the Ground Falls Out from Underneath Your Feet, Indiana Jones, fourth-movie-compliant Indy/Marion.
Surgeon's Hands, Aubreyad. Utterly adorable and sweet.
To Mycenae, Aubreyad. Hits every single damn button I've got.
Practicalities, Aubreyad. Oh, Stephen. Oh, Bonden.
Buggre Alle This, Merlin. Bodyswap. Of course, Merlin's magic is in his body, so Arthur kind of can't not find out. Funny, cracked-out, and darling.
Double-edged Sword, Merlin. Merlin has visions of Arthur, of the future, until Taliesin kindly takes them from him. Really interesting meta-explanation of the show's premise - because in this version, it's a reboot for Merlin in the same way that it is for the viewer.
Acknowledgment, Merlin. Merlin telling, Arthur getting it before he does. Fits close into canon, right after the season finale. Almost reminiscent of DiR, especially the bit with the candle and the cold.
Walking into Legend, Merlin. How the story ends, but different from the old ones. Does a magnificent job weaving the details of the legend in with the changed canon of the show, drawing out a future that is similar and yet fundamentally different - fundamentally better.
The Shall Achieve the Sword, Merlin. Oh. My. God. One of the best fics ever written in this fandom. Lovely, lovely characterization, plot, h/c, legends - this one has it all.
The Royal Prat and the Cave of Destiny, Merlin. Every fandom needs a cave!fic.
Stubborn With Beauty, Merlin. Lancelot and Arthur, and they have to fight Sir Turquine! and it's all very snarky and hot, and what is it about strapping knights coming on to scrawny little sorcerers that's so very very sexy?
Merlin, Arthur, and Sir Damas, Merlin. Cute - boys in a dungeon, Arthur having daddy issues, Merlin secretly saving the day.
Comfort and Joy, Little Women. Laurie and Beth, knowing how things will end. Beautifully written - captures the nuances of the period language - and absolutely heartbreaking.
