Erm... THE SHINY, mostly. Amidala! I found Luke hard to identify with, but Amidala and baby!Anakin and young Obi-Wan I could all get behind.

I loved the costuming, the design, the shiny shiny spaceships. And Amidala was hot and there were costume-related disguises, which always appeal to me. I'm not sure how much, at the time, I appreciated the fact that Amidala's *not* a warrior, although she is trained in self-defense, but that may have been part of it.

I liked podracing more than x-wing fighting. No particular reason, I just did.

I also... I know the worldbuilding of the early movies is clunky and actually detracts from the story, but I liked it. I liked the fact that they built an entire plotline around *trade embargos* (and I lost interest once we got to the clone wars, which are basically INVADE ALL THE THINGS). I like the Republic much better than the Empire, for a variety of reasons. As a kid, the prequel series had scope which the originals didn't, and I *liked* that, I liked the sense of a whole world ticking away in its intricate detail. I cared about the diplomatic intrigue and the fate of the people of Naboo as much as I cared about the eventual battle scenes. (I was, I will grant you, an odd child)

And, hmm. On a more complex level, I like that stage in the history of the 'verse, the point where people still believe in the Republic, even as you know it's coming apart at the seams. They're not fighting to *create* something or to *defeat* something, but to save something. And I like that.
