lookit!

A meme where you draw a pig and it tells you about your personality!

...I am way too easily amused. But it's exam week and I'm tired and also? Plato stinks.

Do the pig thing, baby: http://drawapig.desktopcreatures.com/gallery/large.asp?id=970151&p=0&hof=1&q=personality+test

Why're ya knockin Plato?

Whereas when I knock Plato it's all Plato's own fault. La la.

Yeah, I know about that mess. It sucks. Leo Strauss was not much of a scholar if he missed out on that one important point:

PLATO WAS BEING SARCASTIC!
Ahem.

I didn't know how tight he was with Klein... I don't know if Klein would be considered a Straussian. He seems too reasonable. I just read a big assignment from his Greek Mathematics and the Origin of Algebra and it was really something else. Klein gets many bonus points. Strauss gets zero.

Meh, I take Socrates' previous sarcasm as evidence enough for me. Like saying in a Monty-Pythonian pepperpot voice to Meno, "You are a pretty boy, aren't you? Yes you are! You are a pretty boy!"

Also the fact that the state was a model of a person, not a state per se. The sarcasm seems to come in because of Glaucon, who after Socrates has described a perfect little farming state, insists upon 'relishes.'

I don't think Plato was so stupid as to think human beings would actually operate in the way he specified as a group.

I ♥ "Joan of Arc." The first time I heard it was on that Austin City Limits televised concert by Cohen himself. He had this great backup singer who did the Joan bits.

That's so cool.
Emphasis on the televised. I wish I'd seen him in person. So you definitely trumped it.
Accurate, ay? They got a few things, I must say. Although I don't think I'm that much of a pessimist.
