The only crit that N. gave me on the Celtic paper was that it's not okay to begin sentences with "and" or "but." Whaddaya think, o voices inside the computer. Can I use pomo punctuation, or do I have to pretend that I'm not fragmented?

It goes better with the tone of a formal paper to use more specific conjunctions that better show the relationships of concepts. Ah, the subtle distinctions between "however" and "on the other hand." But when writing in LJ, 'but' and 'and' to begin a sentence have that note of familiarity. So yes and no, I would say.
