My great-grandmother had a stroke today. She's in the hospital, and my grandparents are driving down to be with her. That's all I know--my family's out for the day.

She's ninety years old, and she lived in her own home unsupported until last year. She's a powerful, crochety, brilliant lady who knows more piano music by heart than most have forgotten in a lifetime. She still plays almost every day, and always from memory. The music just comes out of her.

I hope that she doesn't linger. It sounds horrible, but I hope that she passes on. She was so unhappy when she had to move into the home, so afraid of losing her power. She woke up about an hour ago, and the only thing she said was "I'm scared." I hope that she doesn't have to live as an invalid. Her left side is paralyzed.

Ah, I'm sorry! And I completely understand you, my maternal grandma lived six years after having been hit by a car, and she was in pain and deep anxiety every minute of it. :-( I hope the best for yours, whatever that is. *hugs*

Whatever will be, will be. And we'll make the best of it. Right now we're just trying to figure out how bad it is, if I should leave school and go.

I'm lucky--four of my great-grandparents lived long enough that I knew them. She's the last.

And they will be all right, what ever happens. We'll make them be so. Thanks so much for the wishes.
