The sad thing is, it's the young cat, not the old cat. S was ~14, and the old cat, C, is ~19. We were ready for C to start to fail, but he's still going strong. S had cancer. I'm rather awfully worried that my folks are going to lose both cats this year, and I can't go home to visit & help because of covid.

Sad & frustrated this afternoon. Snuggling with my own happy, healthy (aging) kitties. :(

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. It's especially hard when you can't be there.

One of my cats died of cancer at 14 too -- it was so shock for us.
