assorted squee + picspams (comes in a box with a ribbon, natch)

So, okay, I am no longer quite so blue and fragile, but I am still badly out of touch with fannish squee. Idk why, but all of my post-yuletide writing projects are languishing and I'm not writing and argh. And I think part of it is that I miss being in an active fandom? Where people'll ramble about the sourcetext in a communally squeeful kind of way? So I'm going to ramble and squee about some things, and if you're feeling it squee back mmkay? Also there are picspams, because yay picspams right?

I stayed away from spn for a long time after our messy breakup - the one that started in S3 and then dragged into S4 and was messy, yo - but I marathoned the first season and a bit of late and homg I heart this show with wild hearting! If only for the consistent way they mirror SamnDean against women and little kids. And also Sam's hair, which was still cute. And the epic ust between Dean and Ellen, cmon guys that was awesome. And! JOHN. JOHN FREAKING WINCHESTER YO. He is more badass than you, and also hotter than fire, which is kind of ironic because fire? not such a good thing in the guy's life, but whatever. HE'S EDIBLE, OKAY? And Stan the Yed! Anyway, with [personal profile] astolat posting S2 fic, I actually kind of feel in on the zeitgeist with this one. (It is, of course, awesome fic - but you don't need me to tell you that.)

and I do not have SPN photos that I feel are worth picspamming, because I've been out of this one for a while, so ...

Like, yanno, every other white American kid born in the eighties, I grew up on Star Wars. V. definitely a formative slasher text, but formative h/c even more so. Hoth! Force lightning! "Father, please!" Luke Skywalker is like the best woobie on the planet in the galaxy. It helps that I find Mark Hamill desperately adorable. And all of a sudden, a few months ago, I found that I could actually interact! in a fannish way! with this beloved source text of my childhood. (Now if I can just finish any of the other SW OT fic I have started ...)

Current favorite Star Wars thing: Luke's squawky little voice, my god, he's such a doll! The fact that when Luke and Leia take turns yelling at Han in the trash compactor on the Death Star their voices sound exactly the same for serious. The tension between Luke's tendency to be dutiful and his emergent sense of self (a certain point of view? Bitch it up a little more, baby, but you're doing just fine). The way any given "love triangle" scene can be read as either queer or incestuous, depending on your present preference.

also, you know what, have some awesome pictures:

Lando hones in on the ot3; sorry, honey, they look pretty involved. Also - dude, Mark, I think you could get a little closer to Carrie's breasts if you tried harder. Just saying.

Baaaaby! How is this, like, the most evocative shot ever? idek.

Mark/Carrie: I would be totally lying if I said I didn't ship it like a shipping thing. Although I know a little too much about how unhappy Carrie Fisher actually was in those years to go all the way. It's like my sekrit fantasy AU of the way reality was less screwed up and more full of sexy shenanigans.

... because I can't not, omg. This is, like, that fandom I can't stay away from! And it's such a little bit of a thing, and I always end up sulking about not having more show/fandom/anything omg. Tho I am a hypocrite, because I have also not managed to finish and BSG fanwork, damn my eyes! But it's just so candy sweet; I have no resistance to its charms, man.

Been watching episodes of Nu!BSG - erm, mainly the ones with Richard Hatch in them, he makes me feel sixteen and breathless - and it's a damn good show but it just ain't mine. I'm utopia girl, and it doesn't love utopias. Also think it's very telling that the Moppet - my faaavorite part of Classic - had to vanish for them to tell their stories; people in this verse don't seem to take to being awesome adoptive parents in quite the same eager way. I can't decide if I'd rather squee about the totally unnecessary handsiness of Classic or Apollo's pretty green eeeeeyes or just general lurve. It's weird how Classic, desperately inelegant as it is, creates a space I believe in so much more than Nu!BSG does - I want to move into BSG 78, whereas the reboot is all dark and echo-y and more realistic, I guess, but I still don't believe anyone actually lives there, because none of them seem to be in love with anyone else.

excellent pictures:

God Richard Hatch how are you so sexy for srs? I can actually remember sitting at my father's computer late at night as a sixteen-year-old and physically sighing over him. Guitar + sneakers + his pretty faaaace = lurve.

Hmm - I seem to being doing classic-style media fandoms at present? Which is funny because between Radclyffe Hall and George Eliot and also rereading stuff from the Brontës' Angria and Gondal games my non-media brain is very girl-centric at present. Maybe that's why I can't write! Anyway, off to watch more pretty boys on my screen - bugger productivity tonight.
