recs plz?

Internet! I am in need of new anime. What should I watch, yall? Fullmetal Alchemist was pretty much my platonic ideal of, like, everything, but I've also enjoyed Takahashi products. I'm looking for stuff that really goes there wrt wangst/melodrama/bishitude. Any recommendations?

I'm not an anime person, but from what I've read, I bet you'd like "Bleach" (I'm too ignorant to know if htat's a Takahashi product or no.)

Right now, pretty much my favorite anime ever is Mushishi. It isn't all shounen-actiony like FMA, and only has one recurring character, but there's angst and beauty.

The story follows Ginko, a "mushishi," someone who specializes in dealing with "mushi," which are elemental life forms, not conscious or intelligent the way we would think of it, but very...basic, and some of them are very powerful. They aren't evil at all, they're just part of the natural world, but sometimes they interact with the human world in ways that are detrimental to us, and need sorting out. I'm, um, not describing this well, but it's really gorgeous. So here, a short video.

It is very episodic, like an anthology, each episode a self-contained short story. That means that unlike most anime, which never end, this 26 endings, and they're all very satisfying, some happy, some quite tragic, some in between.

Princess Tutu! If you haven't seen it already, you should definitely check it out. It's about fairy tales and stories and ballet-dancing ducks.
