Re-reading Protector of the Small. Kel's not my baby, and these books aren't the Tortallan ones I'm passionately in love with, but heavens above are they lovable. They're the safest safe space I can imagine - and I adore the way that the politics come closer and closer in each iteration of this 'verse. We went from Alanna's non-western cultures to Daine's arguments against slavery to Kel's - well, at this point the warring political factions are the conservatives and the progressives, so that's actually a bit beyond transparent! *schnorgles these books*

Kel's one of my favorite characters of all time, her books are amongst my favorites of anything ever (their original covers are the background on my work computer right now;) ), whereas Alanna . . . well, of Tammy's books that I've read, they're the only ones I've only read twice. And yet! I needed some Tortall, and there it was in the library, and now I am reading The First Adventure for the first time in six years.
I'm enjoying my foray into a not-favorite Tortall book!

... I think the only Tortall left for me to read now is Trickster, which I never have read. Maybe I will. Or maybe I'll be good and go back to my classwork, which is kicking my ass enough that I really shouldn't be reading YA novels at all. Oh well.
