and so the convalescent begs:

being as I am sick in bed, and have run through my collection of frock dramas, I am soliciting recs for films or series based on Victorian/Regency lit. What do I absolutely have to see?

innie_darling from lj here: have you seen the BBC production of Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South? It is tremendously good.

I second that proposal! Also, you probably know this one, but the 2007 Northanger Abbey with Felicity Jones was wonderful.

Was just going to rec the very same - a must see.

If you're still hungry afterward, the Wives and Daughters is pretty good also.

Have you seen the "Barchester Towers" with Alan Rickman as Mr. Slope? And of course there's the adaptation of the Palliser novels in about 8,000 parts (with Jeremy Irons and Anthony Andrews being slashy at each other while dressed in impeccable white tie!)
